Making you feel safe
Making you feel safe
Counselling can be difficult at first, talking to a stranger, especially if you haven’t had counselling before or have had a negative experience in the past. The most important role I have is to provide a safe space by listening, not judging you, and confidentiality.
This can take a few sessions until you feel comfortable enough to talk about your feelings, thoughts and the way you behave. Counselling gives you the opportunity to explore and have a greater understanding of yourself. Once this is achieved you will be able to begin to make changes. There is no time scale for this as we continue to face problems and challenges throughout our lives, but by being supported by myself as your counsellor you will develop the ability to do this independently in the future. In recent years societal attitudes have changed, and our mental health is recognised as being as important as our physical health.
Face to Face, Zoom & Telephone
Face to Face, Zoom & Telephone
Face to face sessions take place at Chipping Norton Health Centre, this is a warm friendly venue where private practices run alongside NHS services. Sessions ae available Monday to Friday from 9.00am to 8.00pm.
Since the pandemic sessions are also available by zoom or telephone. These give a greater choice as some clients prefer these, as they do not require the journey to the health centre. These are available to clients nationwide. Sessions are also available Monday to Fridays.
Some clients also choose to have sessions by telephone, clients who are not able to travel and do not have internet access ask for these. During the pandemic these became popular like zoom and are still being requested.
Prior to sessions I offer a free 30-minute telephone consultation to discuss your reasons for deciding to have counselling and your expectations. I only proceed if I am confident, I can meet these. Clients come for counselling sessions, sometimes being unhappy but not knowing why, lack of confidence/self-esteem, relationship problems, depression, anxiety, self-harm, changing schools/jobs, bereavement are just some of the reasons. I have worked with families, adults and adolescents for over 20 years. I am a qualified counsellor and member of the British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists and have been a consultant for Oxford Autism. I have also been a bereavement volunteer for the Cruse Bereavement Service.

As an integrative counsellor I have been trained and have experience in different theoretical approaches and will work with you in a way that works for you. The experience being focused specifically on your needs. These approaches include Person-Centred, CBT, Psychodynamics, Transactional Analysis and Gestalt.
Critically within all sessions you will find me non-judgemental and empathetic. This allows me to work with your values and beliefs. The sessions are about you and how the therapeutic relationship we will develop is built on trust. This allows us to work at a deeper level and directly affects the outcomes and your expectations being fulfilled.
